So last weekend we tried to go "hiking", there are no mountains out here so we found a state park that has some trails throughout...we packed a picnic and off we went. Needless to say it was not an experience we want to repeat! It was so hot and humid the second we started "hiking" we were drenched in sweat. We couldn't let the dogs run free because of all the nasty bugs like ticks. After about 15 minutes we decided to just head back..we checked the dogs and ourselves and didn't see any bugs so we headed home. On tuesday I noticed some little black dots on the floor but just thought they were dirt, when Benjamin came home from work he noticed there was a ton of them on our bedroom floor and upon closer inspection they were moving! We swept the floor and flushed them down the toilet, and the next morning there were even more!
After some research we figured out they were ticks in the nymph stage! It was horrible and they had been biting the dogs! So we called a vet and they said we had to shave the dogs and pick the ticks off them...we also got some spray to kill the ticks and we haven't had any more problems. The dog look absolutely ridiculous so here are the pictures:
This is the before picture!

Piper has such a heartbreaking look!
Poor Dogs! I had a lady ask me if they were sunburned because of their pink skin! Hopefully we never have to do this again!
