Chlowie and Hayley's Birth Story

So it has been awhile! Like more than a year! We've been a little busy...

Moving on...I want to get caught up so I can post current things, as they happen ya know! So this is the girls birth story. Feel free to just scroll through the pictures if you don't want to hear about waters breaking and dilating etc.

Sunday March 25th 2012 I woke up at about 7:00am. Of coarse I had to go to the bathroom, and when I did there was some bleeding, and I was feeling pretty crampy. I had been having contractions for a few days but had brushed them off because I had been having Braxton Hicks since about 20 weeks. The blood freaked me out a bit, so I called Labor and Delivery to see what they recommended. Because I was only 33 weeks they said I should come in to be monitored. I went to wake Benjamin up and told him I needed to go to the hospital. He was pretty skeptical because this was not the first time I had been to L&D to be monitored! He took his sweet time getting up, while I was starting to freak and and repeat "it's too early, they're not ready yet."                                                                                                                                                                                            We drove over to the hospital, where they hooked me up to all the monitors. I was having contractions every 2-5 minutes! At about 9:00 am the doctor finally came in to check me.  I was 2 1/2 cm dilated, but the doctor wasn't concerned. It is normal to start dilating early with twins.

After doing some tests, they decided to keep me for the day because they were unsure whether my water had broke or not. They also started some medication to stop my contractions.
Here I am 33 weeks pregnant.
I did not feel like the medication was working. They would give me a pill and for about an hour the contractions would slow down, but then start right back up, and they seemed to be getting stronger too.
Around 6:30 pm the doctor came back to check on me before he went home, he mentioned that they could send me to Salt Lake (our hospital did not have a NICU so I couldn't deliver there before 35 weeks) but he didn't think it was necessary. They wanted to keep me over night and then have my doctor check on me in the morning. We agreed and the doctor left.
About an hour later Benjamin noticed that I was really "breathing" through my contractions, so he wanted me to tell the nurse they were getting worse. She called the doctor and he came back to check me. I had progressed to a 4. At this point the doctor said it was time for me to go to Salt Lake. They called for a transfer team and Benjamin headed home to get Bella and drive to Salt Lake.
Finally at 10:30pm the transport team was there and I was being loaded into a HELICOPTER! This was not a fun experience! The gurney they put me on was so small, especially for a woman pregnant with twins! I was having contractions, terrible heartburn, and I was scared! The wind was blowing pretty bad so it was a very bumpy ride!

This was not my actual flight. Just one we saw the next day!

We finally landed at the hospital where they were quick to get me hooked back up to all the monitors and check my progress. I was still at a 4, so they gave me more medication and told me to get some sleep. The doctor told me I might be able to stay pregnant in the hospital for a couple more weeks!

Benjamin finally got to the hospital around midnight and we both tried to get some sleep.
Monday morning I was still only a 4 but I was starting to efface. They brought in 2 different doctors, and a neonatologist to explain what would happen if they couldn't stop they contractions.

At about 9:50am I was getting off the phone with my friend when I felt a sudden gush, I thought for a split second I had wet myself until I remembered I had a catheter from the helicopter flight (worse part of the whole experience!) I started freaking out telling Benjamin to get the nurse because "I think my water just broke!" Sure enough it had. At this point the doctor decided the medication wasn't working (umm duh!) so they were going to stop the medication and let my labor progress. Although I did not want my babies to come early I was relieved. I had been having contractions every 2-5 minutes for over 24 hours and I was ready for it to stop.

At about 2:20 I felt another gush and thought that baby "B's" water must have broke too. The nurse checked me and I was dilated to a 9 and fully effaced. The nurse was so surprised and started rushing around getting things ready and calling the doctor. I was feeling fine at this point because I had received an epidural about an hour after my water broke.

Because I was having twins i had to deliver in an OR in case an emergency c-section was needed to get baby "b" out. We had to wait for an OR to open so we sat around for awhile.
At about 5:23 pm I was able to start pushing. I was pretty motivated to find out the gender of our babies!

At 6:03pm Chlowie Mae Hudson was born! She weighed 3lbs 9 oz and was 16 1/2 inches long.

After a quick ultrasound to make sure baby "b" was still head down, I started  pushing again.

At 6:08pm Hayley Ann Hudson was born weighing 4lbs 1 oz and was 161/2 inches long.
We had 2 GIRLS!! I was surprised! Both girls came out crying and were quickly passed to the NICU. I could hear them crying through the little window and was happy to hear they were doing ok.  After about 2 hours of recovery time we were finally able to go see our little babies! We were able to hold Chlowie for a few minutes that night, but Hayley needed a little help from the CPAP so we had to wait until the next morning to hold her. Overall they were very healthy. We are so excited to be parents of 2 beautiful girls!

I'm so glad you posted this. I always wondered how it all happened. That's cool you got to ride in a helicopter - even if it wasn't that fun.

And yes please start posting current stuff. Your girls are cute!

Aw, that is wonderful Kadee! I can't believe how well you did- it must have been so hard! Thank you for sharing your story. I'm glad you were able to go without a c-section, that is too cool! :)
